Hello! I am a licensed occupational therapist, certified breastfeeding specialist, and mother of two daughters. I received my Masters degree in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University in 2015. My heart has always been drawn towards working in pediatrics and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to start my career at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. I began working in the pediatric outpatient setting in 2016 and gained a wide range of experience treating various developmental deficits and feeding difficulties from birth to 18 years of age. In 2019 I transitioned into the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where my expertise began to narrow in on infant feeding. My caseload was heavily focused on oral motor development and function to progress preterm and term infants from dependency on feeding tubes to oral feedings. I encountered breastfeeding duos often, which sparked a surprising interest in lactation. In 2023 I became a certified breastfeeding specialist and have grown extremely passionate about walking alongside families as they navigate the beginning of their child’s feeding journey.
My time at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital came to a close in 2022 as I stepped into motherhood and made the hard decision to remain home and care for my daughters. Little did I know that I would continue building upon my on expertise in infant feeding as I faced challenges in my own journey with lactation and breastfeeding. From exclusive pumping to exclusive breastfeeding I have personally felt the heartbreak of having low milk supply, yet have also felt the joy of infant bonding through nursing. I have encountered pain with latching and tongue ties, navigated poor response to pumping, worked through infant irritability/gassiness/reflux, experienced dietary modifications for allergy concerns, persevered through infant refusal to latch, and truly so much more! Though overwhelming and stressful, I can clearly see God’s purpose for these hard seasons in life and grateful not only for the professional knowledge/experience but the for the personal experience that has molded me into the therapist I never knew I wanted to be!
